Atlantic Beach NY Yellow Pages

Atlantic Beach is an incorporated village home on the South Shore of Long Island in the town of Hempstead. The village received its name from its location on the Atlantic Ocean. Stephen P. Pettit started the village as the first developer and banker that had plans to create a tourist attraction that would be able to compete with the City of Long Beach which had an amusement park operated by William H. Reynolds that was thriving. Mr. Pettit passed away only a few months after purchasing 3,500 lots in Atlantic Beach. William Austin took up where Pettit left off by constructing electric and gas lines, building homes, and selling land. He even built the bridge that Pettit had planned that would connect Atlantic Beach to Far Rockaway. The village is in the Lawrence School District which offers 13 elementary schools, 1 junior high school, and 1 high school. The most popular attractions are the beaches that offer families all kinds of fun in the sun as well as beach clubs such as Silver Point Beach Club, Catalina Beach Club, Sun, Atlantic Beach Club, and Surf Beach Club. The village offers upscale mansions and summer homes that are also great for sight seers.
